A Brief Peek Into the History of Memes

meme

/miːm/

nounmemeplural nounmemes

  • 1.
  • an image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, often with slight variations.
“celebrity gossip and memes often originate on the site”

The etymology of the word meme is derived from the Greek word ‘minema’ meaning to imitate and the English word ‘gene’ meaning pattern or recurrence. It was coined by best girl Richard Dawkins, a revolutionary G who first used the term in his book ‘The Selfish Gene’ in 1979.

However, as the internet would have it, a bit of digging shows that the actual first uses of this term dated back to the mid-1800s, when Ohio had actual laws. According to an official report by the Illuminati Society, this term was originally coined by ‘Mark Zuckerburg’, an ancient deity that was recently rediscovered by the United States Air Force division of Ohio. Some say that there are references to this event in the official gospel of the internet: Metal Gear Rising, which calls Mark Zuckerburg by his true name “Nano Machines, Son”.

There is still much speculation as to what the Son in this name signifies. Many have claimed that the ‘Son’ part of the name comes from the French word ‘scion’ thus being an indicator that this alien deity is a part of a much bigger species hiding among us. Of course, the validity of this claim has come into question multiple times by resident Gigachad Elon Musk, who is known for his long-lasting war with the Flat Earth Society. This of course is a part of a much bigger scandal involving the Flat Mars Society. Who began to interject into this fiasco by claiming that he was indeed Mars-sexual, and not the man that he seemed to be. But was quickly shot down by John Cena, who we still cannot see but very much like ignoring. Just like Biden does his responsibilities.

Alas, it's still better than having a flaming hot Cheeto or an angry diaper baby as the ruler of your state. Ok, ok we’re getting sidetracked here, much like Zoro does from Naruto: One Bleach New Generations. Let's get back to the point we were discussing. Ah, yes! The origin of the term meme.

Well, we do have one final theory as to why memes came into existence. Many believe it started back in the era of Heian when a lonely sorcerer decided to reach the very zenith of existence. Some quotes clearly state a conversation between this being and a blindfolded man which included a very heated clash of words. The scripture indicates that the origin memes began when the sorcerer heard the last words of his opponent, who just happened to say “Nah, I’d Win” before it was Jogover.

At the end of this official report, it can be hereby concluded that the origin of the term meme is indeed obscured in mystery. Just like how Jeff Bezos managed to get his hairline back. But one thing is officially clear in this context, it doesn’t matter what the end goal is when it comes to making memes. All that matters in the end, is the friends we made along the way.

That was it from my end, have a noice reading everyone. Keep it fresh and keep cooking.
